There’s Only One Expert
There's no shortage of “experts" these days. It's one thing to be genuinely knowledgeable about a certain area coupled with a sincere desire to help others, but quite another thing to just love the sound of your own voice. Scripture tells us not to be wise in our own eyes. To not think of ourselves more highly than we ought. To let others praise us and not boast about ourselves . There are scriptures that talk about deceiving others, or to put it bluntly, being straight up dishonest with vulnerable individuals. There are verses about lying and verses about authority. It's all there for those who want to know.
We are a culture absolutely obsessed with being seen and heard and if we can take a video and tout our " stuff”, even better. But what I see is a mass of needy people screaming at the top of their lungs trying to get noticed. Ads for every possible thing imaginable and sadly, unimaginable as well. Products, services and entertainment all promising the big breakthrough or the contentment we desperately lack. We are a nation of gluttons, clawing, lying, cheating and hiding from the truth. We don't need more stuff. We don't need one more specialist or expert to finally give us the solution to whatever ails us. We just need Truth. THE TRUTH.
In the chaos and noise we have forgotten the golden rules. To treat others as we ourselves would want to be treated. To serve whenever possible and not simply take. To forgive as we have been forgiven. To love unconditionally so that those looking on may see the light of Jesus pouring out of you. Or to put in the words of my favourite verse:
He has shown thee, O man, what is good and what does the Lord require of thee? To do justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8.
In all the noise and chaos of our world, we have forgotten the art of being quiet and still. I'm talking about the kind of quiet where all you can hear is the sound of your heartbeat and the sound of your breathing. Being still is a gift we too often cast aside unopened. So many distractions. So much unimportant baggage disguised as things we have to do. It's yet another lie. Another deception.
Jesus has everything we need to calm our anxiety and racing minds. He can chase away the darkness of fear and loneliness and He alone can comfort when no one else can. Yet we resist with the impudence of a spoilt child and busy ourselves with a million useless activities rather than face our need head on and receive the peace that comes with knowing God. It's easier than you think and so worth the time. Don't delay one more minute. He's waiting to give you what you really have need of today.
