Unfamiliar sounds flood my ears and do battle with my already throbbing head. A terrible fall six days ago has left me with a concussion and several other injuries. It’s hard to focus, hard to read and even harder to write, yet here I am trying my best to bring a little offering from my confused noggin.
My desire is to write something profound and encouraging but I already feel the strain behind my eyes trying to focus on the screen. I am in one of my “still waters” seasons. My soul is quiet and waiting to be restored and my hope for better days ahead is stoic and resolved.
God is still writing my story and although it seems dramatic and intense, I doubt a professional novelist could have included as many plot twists and red herrings as I have encountered.
The backdrop for these latest months is a 61 one year old woman who believes with all her heart that absolutely anything is possible with God. Anything. I believe God gives us grand dreams and desires. He is creative and limitless and I am certain that He wants us to cling to the truth of the Scriptures when He declares He has a hope and a future for us. God makes plans for us!! Let that sink in! The God of the Universe makes plans for each of us and they are very, very good!
I have a plaque in my room with the verse Mark 9:23
“Everything is possible for those who believe”.
It’s pretty simple really. Everything means every single thing you need, can and will happen for those who believe. Believe in what? Not in the circumstances but believe in the One who has never left or forsaken me. Through every valley, every trial, every disappointment, He has been there cheering me on, encouraging me to dream big, love large and trust Him for the outcomes. Humans are strange creatures, we want what we want and we want it our own way. Truth is, it rarely happens that way.
Trusting God for the outcomes means I get to let go and let God write the story. For a writer, that’s harder than it sounds. My mind is constantly in overdrive, creating characters and story lines that have the most outlandish endings, both good and bad. I am the queen of “worst case scenarios” and can tie my emotions up in knots in no time flat. The Bible calls that vain imaginings….The difference between that and believing everything is possible, is that when you know who God is and when you know the One making the plans, you can absolutely trust Him to do His very best for you, way beyond anything you can imagine or ask for.
Today, as I attempt to write, I confess that I thought I had lost my desire and ability to write. It has taken a literal blow to my head to help me realize that is not so. It might be a few days before I write again, but the first step has been taken and anything could happen from here!!
